Inflammation & safe ways to lower it for everyone

Inflammation

Inflammation is a natural process that is needed by the immune system to be effective. Timed bursts of inflammatory responses are a healthy and regular part of  living organisms, including our bodies. They are needed to recruit the right type of cells and initiate the processes the body needs for healing.

It is when inflammation becomes chronic or systemic, in other words, when it never quite stops, that it becomes a major issue for our quality of health, cognitive and physical health. It is the main driver or one of the main drivers behind some of the worst chronic illnesses we know today, from cancers and multiple sclerosis to hormonal and cognitive impairment and other chronic illnesses. It is therefore a priority to lower these ‘loops’ of inflammation. Unfortunately, in this modern age, our bodies are under constant threat from sources of chronic inflammation. Many of these sources we have taken for granted: urban pollution, microplastics, chemicals in our food such as herbicides and pesticides, and even the wrong type of shoe or sports activity.

So while we shouldn’t bubble wrap our lives, we can sometimes prevent inflammation with very easy changes and even help our bodies do better, much better. While some supplements can effectively lower inflammation, not everyone can take these; in fact, in some cases, taking something out of TikTok or a wellness trend can have fatal consequences. For example, turmeric or curcuminoids, one of the most effective supplements at lowering inflammation, can be deadly if someone is on blood thinners, has liver deficiencies, is on certain medications, among others. This, without mentioning dangerous combinations that add Piperine to improve absorption.

So we compiled our Top 3 safest ways of lowering systemic inflammation:

  1. Avoid Exercises that impact joints.
Exercises such as running on hard surfaces or tennis are drivers of inflammation through impact on joints that causes inflammatory cascades sometimes well after the exercise. Instead of running try Swimming or biking  and instead of tennis try, pickeball or even Basketball. As long as the impact on joints is not constant or cumulative, you are safe.
  2. Add Omega-3 to your day.
Omega-3 is the safest and best supplement anyone can add to their day. Omega-3 is among the most common types of fatty acids and we get it through our diet; adding a capsule or two a day will just enhance this even further. Look for quality omega-3 that improves the absorption of the omega-3.
  3. Avoid breathing pollution.
If you live in a place with bad air pollution consider getting the IAQ Air Quality App for days when you should wear a mask on busy streets or avoid exercising outdoors
